This type of singing is influenced by the socio-economic features of the island of Sardinia, its historical and cultural evolution and its oral transmission. In terms of its measures and dialectical structures, the most common types of improvisation are “mutettus*”, “ottadas”, “sa repentina” and “mutos”. During the sung accompaniment that is performed with these improvisations, it is especially worth mentioning the "basciu e contra" of diaphonic guttural sound, as well as the musical instrument "launeddas" which is used as an accompaniment.  Nowadays women have also started to improvise through singing.
